Our Mini Tulum Travel Guide

When planning a trip to Tulum, it is important to understand the two main areas, Tulum Pueblo/Centro (the town) and Zona Hotelera (the beach). The town is where you will find the more budgeted options for authentic restaurants and bars. This is also where many backpackers tend to hang out in hostels and where you will find the greatest number of street food vendors. If you have a scooter and are wanting to get off the main road, there are tons of hole in the wall restaurants, bars, local markets, and street food options on the smaller dirt roads throughout the town and especially in La Valetta. Alternatively, the beach, which is a short scooter or taxi ride away, is where the more high end restaurants, bars, beach clubs, and hotels are.

Below is all the information you need to start planning your trip to Tulum!!

Restaurants

Bars

Super Markets/Local Markets

Cenotes

  • Gran Cenote very cool, but busy

  • Cenotes Cristal y Escondido is more like a lagoon, but would still recommend going to use the jumping platform and rope swim

  • Casa Tortuga Tulum is 30 mins away via scooter and can only be done by a tour - there are 4 cenotes and most of them were dirty - wouldn't recommend

  • Cenote Tak Be Ha, Clan Destino, Cenote Dos Ojos, Cenote Calavera, Cenote Tankah/Cenote Car Wash, and Cenote Zacil-Ha are all cenotes we have not visited, but have heard about

Shuttles

  • Happy Shuttles we have used this one a ton! They let you stop for beer :)

  • Selina, Mayan Monkey, Che, Nomads, and other hostels can arrange shuttle services
